Caring for people with disabilities causes chronic stress and physical and psychological discomfort in family caregivers. The objective was to know the health status of family caregivers
of people with disabilities in the canton of Tulcan. The research was descriptive, transversal and quantitative. The sample consisted of 143 caregivers. The information was collected from the clinical laboratory records, after obtaining the authorization of the caregiver. The laboratory tests were taken into account are blood biometry (leukocyte count, hemoglobin, hematocrit and
platelet count), glucose, TGP, cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, LDL, uric acid, urea and creatinine. The results obtained were: Age (51.63 ± 18.3 years), Women: (n = 108; 75.5%). Hemoglobin (19.29 ± 4.08 g / dL), Hematocrit (62.06 ± 41.15%), leukocytes (21.89 ± 24.42 cells / mm3),
platelets (260.49 ± 112.13 cells / mm3). Glucose (104.5 ± 57.53 mg / dL), ALT (37.91 ± 21.43 IU), AST (32.95 ± 13.45 IU), cholesterol (208.57 ± 46.96 mg / dL), triglycerides (270.68 ± 89.63 mg /
dL), HDL (51.55 ± 13.30 mg / dL), LDL (132.09 ± 34.10 mg / dL), urea (31.95 ± 9.19 mg / dL), uric acid (5.68 ± 1.49 mg / dL) and creatinine (0.73 ± 0.72 mg / dL). In conclusion, the results of the
laboratory tests in this series of caregivers were normal in most cases, however, alterations were identified in the tests of blood glucose level, liver function, kidney function and lipid metabolism, which should be properly diagnosed and treated, since they highlight the need for personalized
medical care in these caregivers.
